We were beyond honored to help out with the Gazelle Foundation this year, a non-profit organization that funds and builds clean water projects in Burundi, Africa – one of the poorest countries in the world. If you’d like to read more about the amazing work they do, or how to get involved with their upcoming projects, please check out their site at www.gazellefoundation.com.
This weekend will be an ultimate first for Austin as the Formula 1 brings the races to Texas’ capital. With so many events going on around town there will be much to do whether you are attending the races or not…
– If you would like to start things off locally Birds Barbershop in Hyde Park will be celebrating their first birthday. Celebrations include Shiner Beer, Free Cake + Ice Cream, DJs, Record Sale Bazaar, Birds+Verb Prize Wheel, Best Wurst Food Truck, Tequila 512 & the Birds Photobooth. Head over to feel the love the Austinite way and meet your fellow neighbors!
– Our friends from Johnny Walker are bringing some of the finer whiskeys in life to us. House of Walker will be setting up shop at the Palazzo Lavaca from Wednesday through Sunday. Each room will be dedicated to a different whiskey so head out and see which Walker room fits you best.
– Start of your day with the folks at the W who are sponsoring the Full Tilt Fashion Show. There will be collections presented by keepers featuring Hugo Boss, the Versace Collection, and Ermenegildo Zegna. So if you would like to participate in one of the cities most talked about Fashion Shows ever, make sure you buy your tickets for the event.
-Head on over back to the W at night to attend one of the weekends most talked about events, Blue at the W. This event has been talked about for months with very few details leaked out. All we’ve heard is that the ladies from the Full Tilt Fashion Show will be attending and of the worlds most renowned elites will all be gather in one place…let us know if this is true or not if you get the chance to attend.
For all of you not really sure on what to do and hesitant to drops some benjamins on such events think about it. For now check out the numerous free events happening around town and maybe once you do decide to join the so-called elite crowd regardless make sure to enjoy this awesome event which has truly granted Austin a global audience.
The East Austin Studio tour is a 2-weekend event that’s all about artists on the East Side opening up their studios, shops, and homes to the public. This annual event encourages people to bike or walk into any place with the EAST official sign out front. We’ll have our in-house artists Jillian Tito and Michael Talley displaying their work and selling prints. Our friends at MadGods will be having a factory sale on their badass t-shirts, and our lead printer Devin Hayes will be here live printing some designs as well. There will be DJs! And snacks! And beer! So pack some beers in your backpack and come hangout with us this Saturday.
Our friend Max Frost will be playing tomorrow at the South Threadgill’s venue. He will be part of the Discovery Series with Girling. Max will be playing at 8 and there is no cover, so bring all your friends!
If you have never heard of Max Frost, he’s an upcoming artist who was born and raised in the ATX. His music style is more part of the experimental genre. We love it but the reason which it falls under experimental is because it is part of the new unfully chartered music territory.
Max writes and produces his own music, there are various songs out on the web (check out his Facebook and Soundcloud page) but for now get a little taste of what to expect tomorrow and we hope to see y’all there!
It’s that time again! Fun Fun Fun Fest kicked off last night with their FFF Nites series. The Mohawk was host to a crazy awesome show: Joyce Manor, Wiccans, Mind Spiders and Superchunk melted everyone’s minds. If you missed out on the wristbands, you can still catch many of the bands playing the festival out at your favorite downtown venues if you show up early enough to get the limited walk-up admission.
We printed loads of cool shirts for Transmission Entertainment this year. The Mitch Clem design is my favorite, but it’s hard to turn down our Fun DMC print. Fun Fun will be crawling with East End Inkers this weekend, and all of us here can hardly wait for Refused, Toys That Kill, and who would skip out on the Run DMC reunion??
The spookiest eve of the year is upon us! Ghosts, monsters, Presidential candidates and internet memes will be out walking the streets tonight. If you’re too old for trick or treating but don’t wanna stay in, why not check out this free show and costume contest at the 29th Street Ballroom at Spiderhouse? I mean who turns down a Selena tribute band? Get gothy with Lost Tribe, let the screams of Ciraturas rattle your bones with the gloomy post-punkers from Crooked Bangs and surf-nerds The Gory Details. There’s something for everyone at this show, including beer.
Most importantly, stay safe boos and ghouls!
As Austinites, we get a bit spoiled by all the great music festivals here in town. Think about it, when was the last time you left town for a festival? One of the best in the country happens around Halloween every year in Gainesville, Florida. The Fest brings thousands of fans from all over the world to this swampy college town for one giant PBR-soaked weekend. It’s an 18 hour car drive and 100% worth it. This year’s big name include Latterman, Propagandhi, 7 Seconds, Frank Turner, Braid and so many more. Austin will be represented at the Fest by local badasses The Capitalist Kids and Denton-transplants The Riverboat Gamblers. Check out the lineup!
The Austin Film Festival begins today! Opening night starts off with Not Fade Away, directed by David Chase ( yes, The Sopranos David Chase) and will continue all throughout the next week. Some of the most anticipated films throughout the festival include Flight, Silver Linings Playbook, The Exquisite Corpse Project, Hyde Park on Hudson & Spinning Plates. The conference will be going on throughout the week with numerous talks with a wide range of topics. Themed parties will be taking place throughout the course of the week, tonight’s opening night will be held at The Rattle Inn and the closing party will be at Bar Louie. Make sure you head out to one of the participating theaters closest to you and see one of this years numerous films!!
After a year of waiting..the moment has finally arrived!! ACL 2012 is just around the corner, and the whole city is ready for what is to come. With last minute ticket purchases, guests beginning to arrive, and after party plans already being made, everyone’s weekend seems to bestow endless possibilities.
Besides the all the amazing shows to catch, there are numerous other ways to have fun at the festival. From helping keep the park clean (if you collect enough water cartons and recyclable cans, you get a free partially recycled commemorative tee!), checking up on the latest score of the TX-OU game going on at the Rock Island Hideaway, the photobooth and interactive activities at the #DellLive Lounge, getting down on some delicious noms offered by multiple local favorites, meet and greets with bands at the Waterloo Tent and opportunities to snag some art from local vendors – there will always be something to do.
The bands this year seem to more mainstream than usual but that isn’t always a bad thing… On Friday we’ll be heading over to see Florence + The Machine, M83, Avicii, A-Trak, Ben Howard & First Aid Kit (just to name a few). Saturdays picks are The Roots, The Shins, Bombay Bicycle Club, Michael Kiwanuka, Dev & Wild Child. And last but certainly not least , Sundays picks include The Weeknd, Gary Clark Jr., Red Hot Chili Peppers, Childish Gambino, Tennis, Iggy & The Stooges. Every night there will be an official ACL Late Night Show, most tickets are sold out but head over to Craigslist to see what deals you can find. If you haven’t already, check out this late night party that’s going on all weekend: Official ACL Late Nights at Malverde.
The second annual SXSW Eco Conference – three riveting days where top innovators and leaders in the country come together to discuss plans, ideas, and solutions for a sustainable world – has come to an end.
Their official closing event is tonight, sponsored by Fader Fort + Glass Is Life. Tonight’s special guests will be DIIV and Yuna with DJ sets by Rapid Ric and Bird Peterson. Spots for the party are still open so make sure you RSVP before the list closes again and let’s all see what tonight is all about.
