Grab your camalbaks, sunglasses, blankets, flags, balloons, sun block, glowsticks… and everything else all you festival goers may need while enjoying this year’s amazing 2011 line up !! From Stevie Wonder to Arcade Fire to Kanye West to Fleet Foxes…. To Bright Eyes to Cut Copy to Broken Social Scene to Foster the People… the list goes on and on with all the fantastic acts. We know that you are just as excited as us, especially because this year is the 10th anniversary – which means nothing but the best of everything ! As always, ACL will be selling up some sick shirts to commemorate the festival – so make sure to go check out all the shops if you are walking past the booths! With that being said, there’s nothing left but to go out there and show ‘em what your made of! Be safe, drink lots of water and have no fear in getting your way to the front of the stage !!
The Backyardhas been known for its live shows since the early nineties, but they also host an array of other events including tonight’s Steak & Wine nite- filled with good people, great food, and live music.
To start, you get to dine in the same exclusive area that the Backyard’s most prestige performers hang out aka Willie Nelson… Dining like a rock star as one might say.
So while you & your friends sit in the same spot that, perhaps.. the members of Arcade Fire just sat, you will be enjoying all the delicious food catered by the critically acclaimed Don Strange (And for all you champions out there, the appetizer & desserts are all-you-can-eat). And yes, there is handmade gorditas involved. Another plus, if you have little kiddies under 10 – they eat for free !
Now, while all this is going down, The Backyard presents a new musical act every single week for your listening pleasure. This week features solo acoustic artist Ben Danaher.
So if any of this interests you.. sounds like your Tuesday nights are booked !
For further information, check out the Backyard’s steak nite page right here.
Tonight will go down as one of the most epic shows I’ll ever be a part of. Taking place at the Backyard @ Bee Caves.
The opening act, Schmillion, deserves mega props – not only because they are a high school band opening up for one of the biggest bands in the world right now.. but also because they are a group of chicas ! It’s very rare to see an all girl band that can rock out with the likes of Arcade Fire and Explosions in the Sky so this will be an act to check out.
Next up – the band that inspired me to move to Austin: EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY. Since I was the age of.. well probably the girls in Schmillion’s age.. I’ve been a fan of EITS. The first time I heard one of their songs, I felt like.. saving the world. No, really, that’s how I felt and I still get that same rush listening to them today. Their instrumental music has always left my imagination to run wild, creating the most epic ideas, moments and imagery in my mind. In 2007, I saw them perform in New York City as part of the Wordless Music Series. It was inside an opera house and it was the start of a string of shows I saw them perform – including a small dive bar in Philly and the open park of Auditorium Shores- and after tonight, I can add the Backyard to the list..
Headlining tonight is the Grammy award winning band .. THE ARCADE FIRE. I started listening to them in highschool as well, when an old boyfriend put them on the boom box… and I was blown away by the array of musical instruments they used in their music. In the five or six years I have been listening to them, I have only gotten one other chance to see this band perform & i missed it. BUT NOW THEY’VE COME BACK TO ME ! & THEY HAVE BROUGHT MY OTHER FAVORITE BAND TO JOIN THEM ! I can’t even believe the amount of happiness that is arising in me just as I type about the show, nevertheless be there.
So, for your viewing & listening pleasure – I have selected the first song that I ever heard by them, Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) – off their record Funeral.
what’s up spring? this is not the weather i signed up for. although gloomy weather gives me an excuse to listen to mellow tunes and not be called “emo” …
i’ve been obsessed with this song lately, perfect for today. this song was bon iver’s contribution to Dark Was the Night, a compilation created by the Red Hot Organization and released in February 2009. Besides this track (that always gives me goosebumps), there are a handful of amazing&exclusive songs by other artists like the national, yeasayer, sufjan stevens, arcade fire …just to name a few ! a great compilation and an even greater cause…
